Pakitahantaawi (let's play lacrosse!)

Pakitahantaawi (let's play lacrosse!) (Myaamia Center x META x ASG)

The Myaamia Center invites you to come and play peekitahaminki 'lacrosse' as we celebrate Better Together and DEI weeks at Miami. You’ll discuss the Indigenous origins of lacrosse and its history among the Myaamia (Miami) people, who know it as peekitahaminki. When French-Canadians started playing the game they referred to it as “la crosse” because they thought that the curved end of the playing stick resembled a bishop’s staff, or crosier. This interactive program will include a discussion of how Myaamia people played lacrosse in the past, how they play today, and reference how the game is played by Indigenous and non-Indigenous people at the high school, college, and professional levels.  The event will conclude with participants learning how to use the common plastic and metal lacrosse stick as well as the Great Lakes style all wooden stick. This will take place from 5-6 pm on the Central Quad lawn between MacMillan and MacCracken Halls

Library Ambassadors Lunch and Listening Session

The Miami University Libraries is excited to announce the launch of a student ambassadors program! We invite student leaders from Black, Hispanic, and other multicultural student organizations to an informal lunch in King Library for a brief presentation, followed by a listening session. The focus of the listening session will be on soliciting feedback from attendees in order to design a successful student ambassadors program.

The Libraries' student ambassadors program seeks to facilitate diverse student engagement with University Libraries spaces, services, programming, and resources, and contribute to furthering an inclusive and welcoming environment in the Libraries. Student ambassadors will have the opportunity to design, host and participate in library events, promote and represent the Libraries in online and on-campus spaces, and generate engaging and innovative programming. Stop by, share your thoughts, and contribute to the creation of a flourishing ambassadors program!
